Mission Focus for July 2021: Mexico

Our Mission Committee’s focus for July 2021 is on Mexico. The Mexican flag will be displayed in our chancel throughout the month.

Our church supports two important ministries that go toward Mexico: ROOT International and the Summer Service program of the New Wilmington Mission Conference.

This year the NWMC Summer Service team went to the Arizona/Mexico border to work with Frontero de Cristo in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. Under the leadership of PCUSA co-worker Mark Adams, the team was involved in many partnering ministries. Members of SS team helped in a community garden, tutored children in English, helped in the kitchen to provide the team’s meals, assisted with Frontera’s Fair-Trade coffee, and assisted the Lily of the Valley Presbyterian Church with various projects and VBS. Also the team welcomed migrants to the Migrant Resource Center. Check out this link to their blog.

ROOT International provides food, clothes, household items, small appliances, large appliances, computers, Bibles (especially in Spanish), tracts, school supplies, toys, blankets, vehicles and many other miscellaneous items to needy folks in northeastern Ohio, the 9th ward of New Orleans, LA, the southwest and Navajo Nation, and into northern Mexico. The majority of these items are acquired from churches, colleges, individual donations, and businesses. ROOT’s vision is to help organizations in other countries as God provides resources and opportunities. ROOT has two offices – in Mercer, PA and El Paso, TX. The ministry is led by Art and Becky Vogan.
