The Rev. Dr. Ted Martin, Interim Pastor & Head of Staff
The Rev. Dr. Ted Martin joined New Wilmington Presbyterian Church in January 2026 as interim pastor. He brings 33 years of ordained ministry and more than 45 years of leadership in service to God’s Kingdom, guiding NWPC during its search for a new pastor.
Ted launched into ministry at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church where he worked with the afterschool children’s program and as a counselor for Summer’s Best Two Weeks. When the Lord drew him to Westminster College for his undergrad work with a double major in Christian education and elementary education, he immediately found pathways of service.
Working with students at the Sankey Center in New Castle, running a junior high youth group out of a Presbyterian church in New Castle, helping with the college fellowship, serving on chapel staff for three years and leading Bible studies.
After college, he stepped onto the non-traditional missionary bus. He spent one year with Habitat for Humanity as an ambassador/builder while cycling across the U.S., then he spent four years on a commuter college campus doing campus ministry with the CCO. This eventually led Ted to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for his Master of Divinity.
Ted’s first ordained call was to First Presbyterian Church of Meadville as an Associate Pastor. After more than six years, the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville explored a brand new position of Associate Pastor of Recreation under Ted’s leadership. Eventually, the Lord led Ted and his family back to Western Pennsylvania. He served the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown as an Associate Pastor and finally alighted upon Hampton Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor for 18 years.
Ted completed his Doctorate in Reformed Theology through a partnership with Pittsburgh Seminary and King’s College in Scotland.
Ted and wife of 39 years, Becky (Engleman) Martin, have a son, Caleb, who currently lives in Munich Germany.
Even though Ted retired from Hampton Presbyterian, in his words, “He still has gas in the tank,” and the Lord has called out to him, “Follow me to New Wilmington!”

Session
Our congregation elects 15 Ruling Elders (in three rotating classes) to form a partnership with our Teaching Elder (Pastor). Together they form the Session, which provides the people of God with vision, direction, and provision for their ministry within and beyond the gathered congregation. The session meets monthly for stated meetings of worship and work, while individual elders exercise ongoing leadership in their respective committee and workgroup assignments.

Deacons
Our congregation elects 15 Deacons (in three rotating classes) to share in a ministry of compassion and assistance to persons in need both within and beyond the congregation. Deacons exercise this ministry individually, in groups, and in partnership with the Pastors.

Trustees
Our congregation elects 12 Trustees (in three rotating classes) to serve as stewards of the congregation’s facility and resources, ensuring that a church building intended for worship, education, and fellowship works for the congregation and not against it. Trustees coordinate with staff members in overseeing all levels of maintenance. They also provide leadership to the congregation in the form of long-range facility, capital campaign, and resource management planning. While not ordained like Elders and Deacons, the role of the Trustees is vital to the congregation’s ministry and mission.
